Just because you sneaked your suitcase on once, don't always expect to get away with it. All limits are now enforced more strictly then in the past. Suitcases are weighed at check-in and many Airlines also have sizing units at the departure gate.
If your suitcase is too big, you'll have to check them and that might cause them to be classified as extra suitcase which usually carries an extra charge. If your suitcase is too heavy, you can be charged a rather high overweight suitcase charge. Also, more rigorous enforcement of the rules and more and more bag-sizer stations will likely catch you now when it comes to your suitcase. This is especially true during the holidays and other peak flying times when the Airlines are watching closely since the planes are full and everyone is trying to carry extra items on the plane.
